Den Chief Training

Den Chief Training provides preparation for the first step toward leadership experience, assisting Cub Scout Den Leaders in conducting den meetings. This can be a critical leadership growth experience for young scouts and excellent preparation for any future troop leadership position.

Introduction to Leadership Skills for Troops (ILST)

ILST is conducted by the troop after elections late spring and fall to teach Scouts with leadership positions about their new roles and how to most effectively reach success in that role. It is intended to help Boy Scouts in leadership positions within their troop understand their responsibilities and to equip them with organizational and leadership skills to fulfill those responsibilities. ILST is the first course in the series, followed by those below.

Troop Guide Training

Troop Guide Training prepares scouts to guide the development of a boy scout patrol. This position involves both outdoor skills teaching and leadership growth. Troop Guides must be First Class Rank or above.

National Youth Leadership Training (NYLT)

NYLT is a 6-day course conducted by the Sam Houston Area Council. The course is designed for current and future Senior Patrol Leaders, Assistant Senior Patrol Leaders, Patrol Leaders and for other youth who wish to assist in leading troops or venturing/varsity units. NYLT is designed to build leadership, management and planning skills so that Scouts can better perform their elected and assigned positions.
